Being wine lovers, sooner or later we find ourselves faced with an important dilemma. Often, we can taste the wine after buying it. We bet on its aromas, its quality - and all the other things that make one wine more appreciated than another —. Whether we have wine at a restaurant or at a wine merchant, it is rare to be able to taste it before making your choice.

It is on the basis of this observation that Tristan Destremau and Grégoire Henry have developed a whole new concept: sample the wine. The goal being to be able to taste before buying and not to buy before tasting.

A simple and efficient project

This idea germinated during a meal at a restaurant when the two friends thought it would be great to be able to taste a little bit of wine before ordering it to make the right choice.. This idea became much more than a simple sentence tossed over a dinner party since in February 2015, these two wine lovers decide to work on this project. The Vinovae company based in Rillieux-La-Pape was born.

After presenting their “Vinovae” project to the Agropole competition, Tristan and Grégoire get 11’000 € subsidy. They then file an international patent for the machine they must use to guarantee the quality of the wine.. The first tests will be carried out by oenologists to taste the samples and verify that the wine does not deteriorate during the process - wine must not be in contact with air —.

Samples are on average 2 cl — the equivalent of a sip —. The entrepreneurs have not yet commented on the price, but samples should be free or at worst sold for symbolic pennies. It was not possible to ask the winegrowers to pack their wine in mini-bottles since it would have been an additional cost for them. The machine therefore makes it possible to fill samples from a conventional bottle without wasting - normally - the taste, color and aromas.

Vinovae – samples ready to conquer the world

Internet users are the main customers targeted by the company. For some years, the online sale of wine is continuously increasing - 10 % in 2015 and certainly 14 % in 2017 — . When you buy wine on the Internet, the online sales company can slip a few samples of other wines to discover in your package.

At the restaurant, you can taste a few samples to choose the wine you prefer to accompany your meal without the waiter having to open a bottle. The wine merchant will also be able to take advantage of this innovation to have you taste a selection of wines to help you choose between several bottles..

Marketing will begin in June, after all the necessary tests of the machine will be completed. The short-term objective is also to develop the activity abroad very quickly, especially in Italy, in the United States and Germany.
