There was a time that those under twenty could not know where to turn to organic production to drink a wine with a minimum of sulphites and chemicals.. But the industry is undergoing a radical change thanks to the invention of the American James Kornacki.

In 2012, less of 2 % of wines consumed around the world were organic. Producing this type of wine is a challenge since you have to do without using chemicals (fertilizer, pesticides…) and sulphites (improves the storage capacity of wine). However, we are seeing more and more that these products have consequences for the consumer : headaches, nausea, sneezing attacks.

A revolutionary filter

American chemical engineer James Kornacki invented a gadget, as useful as design, intended to filter and purify a conventional wine of these substances. With her Start-Up Üllo, he developed this revolutionary "funnel". This object is made up of three pieces : a polymer container in which the user pours the wine, the polymer fiber sulphite filter and finally a propeller to aerate the wine. The user can choose whether or not to aerate the wine by just turning a ring.

According to the first tests of its creator, the wine that comes out contains less 10 mg of sulfite per liter. European law allows concentrations of up to 150 mg for red wines and 200 mg for white and rosé wines.

A project funded by Crowdfunding

Price has not yet been announced, but filters should cost 2 $. In order to industrialize and market this invention, the founder appeals to internet users via Kickstarter. His project submitted on 22 July required 100 000 $. Today, more than 1,400 contributors got involved in the project to reach a prize pool of more than 150’000 €.
