One might think that the world of wine is a sector of traditions where things do not change much, and yet, I regularly talk to you about new technologies and innovations. This time, I'm going to tell you about an invention that will most certainly invade homes : The D-Vine.
The "Nespresso of wine"
After a crowdfunding campaign in 2014 which has been very successful, the society 10-wines — 40.000 € collected for a goal of 15.000 € all the same - announced that they wanted to market their machine on 15 November 2015 and you can already pre-order it on their site.
Designed by three Nantes engineers, at D-Vine - read Divine - works with bottles of 10 cl of wine inserted on top of the machine. A reader identifies the RFID chip present on the tube so that the machine recognizes the wine in order to refresh it at the right temperature and air it as if it had been aerated for three hours, but in less than a minute. Clear, you will no longer need to plan a long time in advance to taste your wine. The second big advantage, is that everyone can choose the wine they want without having to find a compromise. No more drinking wine for days if you wanted to have just one glass.
For the moment, around thirty wines from different regions are available with prices ranging from 2 to 16 € the 10 cl : Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, Rhône, Provence, Languedoc or South-West. The very comprehensive site gives you a lot of information on the wines on offer : presentation of the winegrower, tasting, field, food and wine pairings.
It is also possible to register on the website of 10-Vins to a monthly "web-tasting", to discover new selections delivered to your home for an online appointment with a renowned oenologist who will help subscribers in the harmony of food and wine pairings.
The machine, as for her, costs no less than € 1,490… It is very much overpriced for the advantage it confers !
Why does Beaux-Vins not adhere ?
Far be it from me to break this little revolution, Furthermore, French - cocorico ! —, but faced with the media praise encountered, I still remain skeptical.
The price is too high
We are not going to lie, the price of the machine is greatly overestimated ! But what about the price of wine ? The site offers to buy the selection of wines either in 10cl bottles or in bottles of 75 cl — it's perfect for making comparisons —.
To see what it is, I used the first product offered on the site of 10-wines. Domaine de la Croix is sold in bottles of 10 cL at a price of 6 € 70. While it costs no more than € 20 in a classic bottle, you end up paying more than 50 € your 75cL thanks to the D-Vine.
The hypocrisy of D-Vine : Buying a D-Vine is just wanting to show off your wealth !
You want to go further ? French consumers allocate on average between 5 to 10 € per bottle of wine and between 11 to 20 € for connoisseurs. But imagine that you are a big wine lover - It's a certainty - and that your budget is 25 € per bottle.
You have already spent more than a minimum wage to pay yourself the D-Vine and now you are paying all your WITs, two to three times more expensive… Bravo, you are a pigeon !
The limited space
It might be silly to say, but the machine is still imposing and may have trouble finding its place in my little Parisian apartment in 12 m². Count all the same 85 cm height - for the machine and the clearance to place the tube - for 35 cm deep and 20 cm wide ! Your Nespresso next door will look very small.
And the conviviality ?
Wine, above all, it is a fun time to share and discuss. It's a moment of conviviality. I don't know you, but I have a first shiver when I plop the cork that has just been removed and a second when I try to find out if the wine has a fault. Sharing wine is also sharing your impressions with others. Is this wine good ? What aromas does it have ? Where is he from ?
With such a machine, you will be able to say goodbye to the plop which will certainly be replaced by the gentle sound of a flowing liquid that prompts you to go to the bathroom - and a few other noises like the Nespresso that can be heard throughout the apartment —.
And what about the exchange of impressions if everyone has taken a different wine ?
