A bottle to face the shortage of rosé wine

Like every year, rosé wine could be missing this summer…

In any case, this is the information reported by The echoes. Global consumption of rosé has jumped by more than 30% in the space of 15 years. Yet the world's leading producer of rosé wine, France has been facing production difficulties for several years. For the Provence region alone, this is a decline of almost 10% who is announced.

Obviously, the main risk is a significant rise in prices. According to INAO – National Institute of Origin and Quality -, we must expect an increase of 20 to 30% prices. "Faced with rising demand and production costs, we are forced to increase the prices ", explains Jean-Michel Ablette, winemaker of the Bardot estate, at the Môle, in the Var.

Avoidable dramatic consequences

This price increase allows, among others, to avoid out of stock as much as possible. The sector, guided by a seasonal sale, remains too much in a just-in-time sales logic. Furthermore, many winegrowers are facing an unpredictable increase in export demand.

In this difficult context, INAO has launched a call for tenders to reinvent the production and consumption of rosé wines.

A bottle of technological wine

Wine-Star, French leader in nomadic wine packaging, was chosen from more than 10 competing companies. The company had stood out a few years ago with its innovative wine cans.

With its experience, the company has been able to offer INAO a new and unprecedented way of consuming rosé wine. Despite a shortage of rosé wine, the company found that the winegrowers had good stocks of red and white wines. So, the innovation team looked for a way to produce rosé wine using available stocks.

According to Professor Merlan, the idea would have occurred to him while brushing his teeth. Seeing his two-colored toothpaste coming out of the tube, he had the idea of a small bottle of red wine in a bottle of white wine to make a glass of rosé wine. The half-bottle of red wine contains a valve that releases its liquid when serving the wine.

This new bottle, accepted by the INAO, will be marketed this summer and will invade our tables for our greatest pleasure!
