Spring is here - finally - and with it comes the time for barbecues and aperitifs on the terrace. With the heat, it is always pleasant to enjoy a good glass of chilled white or rosé wine. But, it happens that friends pass by unexpectedly and we forgot to put a bottle of wine in the fridge just in case. You have a few minutes left before they arrive ? Here are solutions to save your aperitif !
The pool rosé
I admit that I started with this solution to advise against it. You do not know the pool rosé ? It was fashionable in 2006. The idea is very simple : pour the wine into a tall glass filled with ice cubes. — Jeffrey, give us some ice cubes —
Some bloggers have taken the gamble of placing themselves as the great defender of the pool rosé - simply to show against the tide —. Far be it from me to denigrate them, nor to go on a crusade against the marketing services of Vinovalie or from Moët and Chandon, but I find this solution really uninteresting…
"Why ? »You will tell me. The reasons are simple. Ice cubes are made of water - I swear - and by melting the ice cube will dilute your wine. Result, the aromatic potential of your wine will be altered. Paying for a pool rosé on the terrace of Cavé is also a great scam in itself.. Presented in a large glass of 32 cl, the level of wine required represents only 9 cl with ice cubes. A good way to make a good margin for the Gripsous who sold you this beverage.
Option #1 - the freezer
You have 10 minutes ahead of you before your friends arrive ? It's perfect. Just wrap your bottle with a damp tea towel or paper towel and place it in the freezer. This solution is simple and avoids drinking a wine-water cocktail..
Option #2 - the ice bucket
It is true that the previous solution allows you to quickly refresh your bottle of wine, but it also happens that in case of strong heat your bottle heats up just as quickly. So, why not just use an ice bucket ?
The ice bucket is used to obtain the right serving temperature by 5 to 10 minutes. Put ice cubes in a bucket or large bowl. If you are using a wine bucket, fill it about two-thirds full with ice cubes - if you use a larger bucket, fill it to two-thirds of the height of the bottle —. Then pour the coldest water possible up to the height of the ice cubes.
The little trick that changes everything is to add salt to the bucket. Salt reduces the temperature at which water freezes. It allows the ice to lower the water temperature more than normal. Your wine will therefore be cooled more quickly.
By swirling the bottle of wine in the water, it saves a little more time. The movement will stir the wine in the bottle so more lukewarm wine will come in contact with the cold glass..
Option #3 - have a grain… grape
Are you looking for a cool and pretty method to chill your wine? ? A pastis drinker has put on all the ice cubes - impossible to make an ice bucket - or you don't want to put your wine in the freezer ? This solution is made for you and frankly it is my favorite.
With the return of good weather, adopt a reflex that will make the difference ! De-stem grapes, put them in a zip-top freezer bag and place it in your freezer. The next time you find your wine a little too hot, place two or three grains in your glass.
The effect will be the same as with ice cubes without the inconvenience and the grains will crunch after tasting. This solution also works well with white wine, rosé or even an effervescent.
Option #4 - an accessory on hand
The Corkcicle is certainly the most practical accessory I have discovered so far and costs around twenty euros. It consists of a cork stopper and a long tube filled with gel in the shape of a stalactite - and not a stalagmite — . You just need to take it out of the freezer and slip it into your bottle of wine.. The bottle will thus be cool in a few minutes and will maintain its temperature for almost an hour. After use, just wash the accessory in water and put it back in the freezer.
It is important to have a finish
Now that you have several simple solutions for cooling your bottle or glass of wine, you have no more excuses… We avoid the pool rosé this summer !
