Aveine X Fine Wines : meeting around the first connected wine aerator ! When technology makes ventilation quick and easy…

When you are passionate about wine, we learn to be patient. Every year, we are awaiting the arrival of the new vintage of our favorite wines. We are patient when it comes to holding onto it to wait for its peak. We are patient, sometimes several hours, to aerate our wine so that it opens up and expresses all the beauty of its character. How long does wine need to breathe ? Is ventilation really necessary ? Finally, there is a solution to answer all these questions : Aveine.

Some people buy a carafe that collects dust in the cupboard, others open their precious bottle the day before to let it breathe. But finally, it is rare that we really know the ideal ventilation time. I don't know anyone who dares to get up at four in the morning to open a bottle of wine because the wine merchant offered to air their wine 8 h.

Aveine is the best solution that I have had the opportunity to discover for the impatient and those who do not really know how to understand the aeration of wine.

Aveine, the ambition to facilitate the aeration of the wine

Airing a wine is often a real problem : How long, comment, what to do when guests arrive at the last minute ? In short terms, ventilation is often a hassle and many of us do without it to avoid the hassle !

With the entry into force of new technologies in the world of wine, every year we see new projects emerge. Some more wacky than useful, but other interesting ones and this is the case of Aveine !

Aveine, it is the emergence of an intelligent and connected aerator. The idea of this young start-up is simple : make wine aeration accessible to everyone. Thanks to their aerator, you will be able in just a few seconds to taste a perfectly aerated wine. The tool is connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth and thus directly exchanges information with the application. With these two tools put in relation, you simply become a god of ventilation.

The application allows you to take a picture of the label of the bottle which will then be analyzed and identified in their database. Once this quick step is complete, the application will offer you an optimal aeration time. Under-ventilated, your wine does not gain anything ; over-ventilated, your wine has passed and has lost its splendor ...

Aveine opens the field of possibilities to you !

Because wine is also a matter of taste, the ventilation tool allows you to adapt your ventilation to your preferences. You can easily test the level of ventilation from one glass to another to find your preference or adapt the ventilation to individual tastes. Tasting a glass of wine is therefore more accessible, but also fun.

There are a whole bunch of wine aerators, but none equal Aveine. It allows you to give the equivalent of one to 24 hours of ventilation to your glass of wine in a few moments. The aerator adapts to the neck of the bottle and pushes air through the wine. By controlling the level of air in contact with the wine, Aveine offers us faster ventilation.

For the time being, the aerator only recognizes 10’000 wines ; which is little compared to the number of existing wines. However, if the application does not recognize the label of your wine, the latter will give an average value taking into account the grape varieties used or the vintage.

Aveine : a long-term project

Aveine did not wait to have me test her aerator to validate her concept - what I deeply regret -. They are certainly not launched headlong as they spent more than a year and a half working with Julien Dussert. He is known to have been the best sommelier in France and several hundred tastings were necessary to arrive at the final result.. They also worked with the Institut de la Vigne et du Vin to make the algorithm as efficient as possible in its aeration proposal.

Once their project is ready to be launched, the Parisian start-up Aveine launched its crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo platform to finance the production of its product : the first smart wine aerator. After only 24 hours, the startup has largely exceeded its objective, proof of a certain enthusiasm for the product.

The startup has already won a number of awards, such as that of CES innovation 2018 in the Home Appliance category. They are also winners of the BPI France innovation competition. Without forgetting the crush price 2017 de la French Touch Conference.

Beaux-Vins, what did you think of your Aveine tasting ?

Everything I just told you may sound good to you, but in the end does this aerator really work ? To tell the truth, I did not know about this innovation before he contacted me to offer to test it. Curious by nature, I went to their premises to test their prototype.

Once the bottle is opened, three glasses are served. The first has not undergone any ventilation although it has passed through the aerator placed on the neck of the bottle. The second simulates the effect of an open bottle 5 hours in advance. Finally, the last endured a ventilation of 10 hours.

Result, the nose of the unventilated glass is very alcoholic and the tannins in the mouth are hard and drying. A wine much too powerful for my taste and which clearly calls to accompany a meal. Aerated glass 5 hours is much more flattering ! The tannins have melted, giving way to the aromas of black fruit in the wine. A real treat to taste with much more subtle and pleasant notes for my palate. The last, over-ventilated, became totally flat. The whole range of flavors discovered in the previous glass has faded and the wine is no longer of interest.

I clearly appreciated the effectiveness of this tool, yet a fervent defender of the use of the carafe. I wanted to play with, test each level of aeration with the proposed wine to find the perfect level of aeration for my tastes. It's immediate, portable, accessible, simple and fun. Everyone can have fun aerating their glass of wine as they wish.

I have to admit some small flaws in this tool created by Aveine. The very first thing that made me tick is the price. It will still cost more than 200 € to acquire this aerator, a gadget that is not quite within everyone's reach. Of course, who says electronics also says battery. So if your battery is empty, you can leave your aerator in the cupboard and take out your carafe to aerate your wine. Finally, small detail related to having tested the prototype, the running aerator made a little whirr that reminded of the soft sound of a vibrator on and I couldn't help but smile when the aerator was turned on for the first time.

I was only able to test this aerator on a wine and without using the mobile application. I therefore cannot give you a completely objective opinion on the complete effectiveness of this product.. I can't wait for it to finally be available to tell you more and test it on different wines to check the relevance of the advice offered by the application.

What do I do if I don't want to spend such a sum ?

Other solutions to aerate your wine exist and are far from bad. During aeration of the wine, the tannins fade to make your wine more rounded and tasty. The wine therefore has more taste and is more frank on the palate.. Wine in contact with oxygen awakens and releases the full range of flavors that have been dormant for a long time.

You can simply ask your wine merchant to find out how long your wine requires aeration. All you have to do is open your bottle in advance and remove a small glass of wine - which you can enjoy in advance - so that the level of your precious liquid reaches the level of the shoulder of the bottle. So, the contact surface between the wine and the air is greater. You can also take your pain patiently and let your glass of wine breathe 20 minutes before tasting it and fully enjoying it. For these two simple methods, no hardware is needed and it costs you nothing more than a little patience.

You can do like me and many others and buy a wine decanter. If your first glass of wine seems closed and spirited, pour the contents of your bottle into your precious carafe. You are impatient and your wine is young ? You can speed up the aeration process by stirring your carafe as you might when tasting with your glass of wine.

Finally, you can purchase a wine aerator which will cost you on average around thirty euros. The wine aerator is an oenological accessory that, as indicated by his name, accelerates the aeration of your wine. With this small accessory, you can easily aerate your wine by the glass or use it in combination with your carafe. The use of an aerator is equivalent to two hours of ventilation, valuable time that you can save in seconds. If the wine still seems too unventilated to you, you can easily do it a second time in your aerator. However, you will have understood here all the advantages of Aveine which will allow you to air your glass of wine on time.
